September 10 Vista RC1I'm currently reviewing Vista RC1 and IE7.
There are a few annoying things about Vista. For example, I used to be
able to set Connect to a menu choice, and then you could easily select the VPN
you wanted. However, in Vista, I haven't been able to set it to a menu
choice, so you have to open a window and then select the
VPN. September 05 South FloridaFlorida seems to be under some nasty weather. I've looked into how to search on zip codes to get weather information so I could add a search to IE7 search but haven't really come up with anything. August 28 YelpYelp lets you to search near a location and find reviews of restaurants, venues, clubs, nightlife, parks, etc. This search is set to search Boca Raton, so you'll need to customize it for your own area. The reviews are done by anybody, so they have a rapidly growing list. I've added it to IE7 Search Providers. I wish it had an RSS feed for the new reviews. August 19 CopernicCopernic is a meta search engine
drawing on results from Google, Yahoo, Looksmart, and others. It has a
downloadable tool, but I found a way to add search to IE7. Copernic has a
good reputation for making a desktop search tool, but I haven't tried it
myself. Browsing searches by TLDIt would be a useful feature to be able to browse for searches at Add Searches to IE7 by their top level domain. This way you could easily see if someone had added a search for the UK, or even .net. That would be a cool feature. August 11 Gather.comGather.com just
got added to OpenSearch: search
providers for IE7. Gather.com
allows users to create and tag articles. Users can add comments. It seems
similar to Squidoo and HubPages, but without being able to add modules or
sections like those. August 06 added Yahoo for UK search to the OpenSearch IE7 listI added Yahoo for UK search to the OpenSearch: adding Search plugins to IE7 and Firefox.
Something that is interesting about the way that Yahoo handles that, is it
redirects yahoo.co.uk to uk.yahoo.com.
July 30 UK searchesYou can see that OpenSearch: adding searches to
IE7 has already had some UK searches added to it. If you go and
search on .uk you will see several searches.
July 29 I added Surfwax to OpenSearch ListSurfWax is a meta search engine which offers a variety of ways to analyze
the results, including FocusWords and SearchSets. I've added Surfwax.com to OpenSearch: adding searches plugins to
Firefox. They offer different options,
like showing the summary or not. July 23 Adding Google Books searchI just got inspired to add another search by newtronic. I just added Google Books search to Searches for Firefox and IE7. Google Book search does a full text scan. I don't have a feeling for how many books they cover. July 22 Added Bloglines to IE7 SearchAt OpenSearch: Add Searches plugins to IE7 and Firefox, I added a search using the Bloglines engine to search for feeds. I need to investigate more how Bloglines tracks its feeds.
Adding Feedster to IE7 search toolbarAt OpenSearch: Add Searches plugins to IE7 and Firefox, I added a search using the Feedster engine to search for podcasts. Something I don’t understand is how Feedster finds the feeds that it searches. Perhaps it monitors the weblogs.com site or more. I think it might have its own ping service, but if that’s the case, every blogging service out there would have to ping them.
July 21 Adding internet tools to the IE7 Search toolbarOver at Polarman, he has a post about adding dns and whois to the IE7 search toolbar using OpenSearch: Adding Search to IE7. Apparently, he uses www.DNSStuff.com and adds various tools from there to the toolbar. This is a very clever way of adding things that are not at first glance "search' and using the search toolbar to speed up accessing those tools. |
